Historically doctors would prescribe Diazepam prior to flights for extreme anxiety.
Unfortunately GP’s are no longer able to do this for a number of reasons.
Diazepam can in some people cause agitation and of course it can cause drowsiness which may affect interactions with respect to emergencies on board flights.
So therefore at Balmoral Surgery, our policy is not to prescribe this sort of medication for flying related anxiety.
There are many fear of flying courses that the airlines provide, which are a far better way to manage anxiety regarding flights.
